Legalizing Shari'a (Islamic Law) and Its Impact on the 'Pancasila State' in Indonesia: the Case of Shari'a Regulations (Perda Shari'a)


Speaker:
Pierre Van der Eng (Australian National University)

Dr. Van der Eng is an economic historian of Southeast Asia, and is known for his work on Indonesian agriculture and macroeconomic estimates of Southeast Asia generally. He is one of the few statistical historians trained under the supervision of Professor Angus Maddison. He will be with us as a visiting researcher from the end of November for about a month.
In this seminar Dr Van der Emg will speak to his paper on the history of cotton textile industry in colonial Indonesia.
