a. Social Violence and the Filipino Elite and Middle Classes
b. Political Memories Project: Recovering Stories from the Student Revolt of the 1970s (The First Quarter Storm of 1970)

a. The study examines the nature of social violence among the Filipino elite and middle classes, an issue that is rarely given attention to mainly because of the ability of these classes to keep hidden this dark side of their histories. It focuses on two specific forms of violence: criminal episodes involving members of elite families, and the violence between middle class student fraternities.
b. This project seeks to recover the stories of the generation that was involved in the student protests of the 1970s. Student radicalism of that period have had a profound impact on Philippine society, paving the way for the communist movement to recover on the one hand, and also for the Philippine State to shift into authoritarianism. Today many from this generation have assumed important positions in Philippine society and the aim of this project is to determine how much their radical and rebellious past have influenced the way they conduct themselves in business, academic, government, and even the revolutionary movement.
