荒廃熱帯林のランドスケープレベルでのリハビリテーションに関する研究荒廃した熱帯林や断片化している森林域を修復するには、生態系のランドスケープレベルでの修復技術の開発が必要である。このための研究として(1) 択伐跡地、二次林、荒廃潅木林など荒廃林地の修復技術の開発と種多様性の評価、(2) ラバープランテーションや人手の入った荒廃地の修復と二次林樹木特性の解明、(3) 一斉早成樹人工林へのナチュラルフォレストコリドー導入による触媒効果の評価と立地管理方法の開発を行う。また(4) 森林修復管理オプションの社会経済的適応可能性の評価と地域住民参加によるランドスケープレベルでの土地資源管理計画策定に関する研究をおこなうとともに、(5) 現存するネットワーク情報の交換やプロジェクトの総合化を行うためにデータベースと国際ネットワーク構築を行い、地域の環境保全のための修復技術を統合し、目的を達成する。
