アフリカ牧畜社会の変容に関する研究
アフリカの乾燥地域には牧畜を主たる生業とする人びとが生活しており、家畜群を維持・管理す ることと深く結合した社会や文化を形成してきた。しかしながら現在、たび重なる旱魃や内戦な どによる治安の悪化、自然資源の劣化、あるいは人口増加などによって在来の生業形態の存立が あやうくなり、また実施されてきた開発援助計画の多くは失敗に終わるという困難な状況がある。 わたしの研究課題は、このように激動する環境のもとで外部からもたらされる新しい要素が旧来 の要素に接合される複合的な状況を具体的に明らかにし、また、噴出する矛盾や葛藤を人びとがどのように認識・解釈し、対処しているのかを解明することである。
