南部アフリカの狩猟採集民として知られるサン(ブッシュマン)をおもな対象として、次の４つの領域において研究を進めている。(1)養育者−子ども間相互行為、 (2)自然環境や生業様式と養育者−子ども間相互行為との関わり、(3)環境認識、(4)エスニシティの変遷。さらに、これらの研究を関連づけて、サンの社会的相互行為を組織化する文化的構造を明らかにしようとしている。
