◆エチオピア・フィールド・ステーション（EFS）は、首都アジスアベバに拠点をおき、南部諸民族州の南オモ地域にサブ・ステーションを設けて活動をおこなっています。
◆アジスアベバと南オモ地域のサブ・ステーションのそれぞれのステーションにおいてセミナーをおこないました。アジスアベバにおいては、2006年2月8日に宮田寛章（平成17度入学）が臨地研究の中間報告をおこない、重田眞義（ASAFAS教員）、森元泰行（国際植物遺伝資源研究所・サハラ以南アフリカ地域ナイロビ事務所・民族植物学研究員）、孫暁剛（COE研究員）、金子守恵（COE研究員）、佐川徹（平成12年度入学）、伊藤義将（平成15年度入学）、とともに活発な議論をおこないました。
◆2006年2月5日から2月18日まで、重田眞義（ASAFAS教員）、森元泰行（国際植物遺伝資源研究所・サハラ以南アフリカ地域ナイロビ事務所・民族植物学研究員）、孫暁剛（COE研究員）、金子守恵（COE研究員）、佐川徹（平成12年度入学）、川瀬慈（平成13年度入学）、伊藤義将（平成15年度入学）は、南部エチオピアを中心にスタディツアーをおこないました。スタディツアーでは、コンソの集約的な農法について見学し、在来技術と開発のポジティブな側面について検討したほか、南西部のエンセーテを基盤とした生業活動を営む地域において、庭畑の利用や栽培植物と人とのかかわりについて調査をすすめました。
◆国際ワークショップの開催
2006年2月4日・5日、アジスアベバとアルバミンチにおいて、「文化と開発のポジティブな関係：東アフリカ多民族共生社会の構築（Positive Relationships between Culture and Development in East Africa: Analysis of Multi-Ethnic Context）」というテーマで、国際ワークショップをおこないました。趣旨、プログラム、参加者は以下のとおりです。

・趣旨
2003年の国際ワークショップ開催以来、エチオピアではアジスアベバ大学社会科学部と連携してASAFAS教員、院生、研究員が各地で臨地教育・研究を継続してきました。今回のワークショップでは、エチオピア・フィールド・ステーションの共通研究テーマ「東アフリカ多民族共生社会の構築をめざして」に関連して、在来の知識・技術・資源の持続的な利用とそれをめぐる管理システムや社会的な規範が開発実践の場面においてポジティブに機能する可能性について、各参加者がフィールドのデータを持ち寄って議論します。エチオピアにおいて開発実務にたずさわる専門家の参加をあおぎ、研究と実践の両面から意見を交換します。

・Prospectus
In 2003, we had an International Workshop of 21st Century COE Program, “Aiming for Integrated Area Studies” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Since then, all members of Ethiopia field station who have participated in the workshop, have kept conducting fieldwork and have had seminars jointly with the department of Sociology and Anthropology, Addis AbabaUniversity. Pursuant to the aim of Ethiopia field station: "Creation of Multidimensional Symbiotic Society in North East Africa and the Role of Area Studies", we are planning to organize another workshop which will focus on the positive relationships between culture and development in East Africa. The workshop will bring together both Ethiopian and foreign experts and researchers in the fields of culture and development. We hope the workshop will provide an excellent venue for the participants to exchange views on how cultural practice, values and social norms can positively contribute to development. We will examine several case studies of indigenous knowledge, culture-based resource management practices, and community-based technology, and discuss how these practices can be integrated into planning and practicing development in East Africa.

・2005年4月から10月は、関係者の業績の更新、本体HPへのリンクなどを更新しました。10月以降は、COE研究員（金子守恵・任期：10月〜3月末）が、新たにページを追加したり更新したりする作業を毎月1回以上おこなってきました。
・ ホームページと連動したメールマガジン「エチオピア・フィールド・ステーションだより」は、COE研究員を中心に立ち上げた編集委員会によって11月以来現在までに6号が発行されており、4月3日現在の読者数は68人です。
